The Stork Visits The Peoria Zoo

Peoria Zoo

The Peoria Zoo has a new baby in the African Exhibit. The male giraffe calf was born Monday at 4:10a.m.

He weighed 102.5 pounds and is 5'4" tall. The zoo’s giraffe keeper says the calf’s mom, Vivian immediately took to her new role.

Zoo staff is calling the baby giraffe Lil G for now. But the zoo’s giraffe keeper has identified three possible names. Finely, Fahariand Kaito are the choices. Each has its own special meaning.

Zoo visitors will have a chance to vote on the names after the baby giraffe makes his first public appearance Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

The Zoo also had three tiger cubs born in December last year. Nia, Kali and Zuri are on display Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sundays weather permitting.
