Rauner Visits Peoria, Talks Reforms and Business

Tanya Koonce

Governor Bruce Rauner made three stops in Peoria today, speaking with the Rotary Club 76, the Illinois Economic Development Association, and touring the Air National Guard Base.

Speaking with members of the  Economic Development Association, Rauner says he is not hopeful about the progress of the legislative working groups. He says he believes Democratic House Speaker Mike Madigan is waiting to see who picks-up seats in the November elections.

“If he picks up seats, it’s a scary... If the super majority goes to a super-super majority where I can’t do anything? Katie-bar-the-door. I mean, I am very worried. If we can pick up a few seats, so not the super majority, I think we can do some very very good things.”

But the Governor says between now and November the Speaker wants Illinois taxpayers to bail out Chicago Public Schools and that’s not fair.

He also says he believes in the next few months the state will get a  balanced budget, along with pro-growth reforms on workers comp, and tort and pension reform.

Then Rauner says, he’ll foot the bill to travel the world.

“I want to go to go to Germany, China, Japan, Korean, UK, Candida, Brazil and recruit companies to come to Illinois, and we’re going to do that on a very, very aggressive scale, never been done before.”

The Governor says he’ll put together a competitive team of business leaders in the state to make the global recruiting visits.
