Peoria Public Library System Closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Peoria Public Radio

Peoria Public Library locations throughout the community are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Construction at the main branch is causing a power outage that takes down the internet and phone service.

All phone and internet services originate at the Main Library downtown on Monroe at Main  street. That means the branch libraries and the Bookmobile will not be able to operate.

A new heating and air conditioning system at Main Library is being installed. It will replace the original, failing 1960s system.

Library officials say the construction began in September and should finish this week that includes moving an electrical panel to the exterior of the building, a design now required by law.

North Branch is always closed on Tuesday. Lincoln Branch is always closed on Wednesday.

All locations will resume regular hours on Thursday, December 20.

Patrons will not be charged late fees for overdue books, however outside drop boxes are available at all locations. The drop box at Main Library may be blocked at times due to the construction.
