Peoria hires new code inspectors, considering new budget-input technology

The City of Peoria is hoping to use new technology to get resident input in crafting next year’s budget. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:

Looming multi-million-dollar deficits through 2019 is prompting some councilmembers to call for more public outreach on drafting the budget. City Manager Patrick Urich says the city is considering online-budget-simulations that give people a sense of making financial choices:

“And it’s all based on: do you want A, do you want B? If you take away from B, you’re going to have more for A.”

Urich says the city is also looking at public budget meetings  for additional input. The City also hired two code-enforcement inspectors and a building safety inspector with a federal grant. And Mayor Jim Ardis recognized the service of Warren Reynolds, who served on the city council in the 1970s and died yesterday.
