Memorial Day Remembrances Planned in Peoria Area

As of this week, the Defense Department reports 4,424 US soldiers have died in the war in Iraq. 2,349 soldiers have died in Afghanistan since 2001.  

Several events are are going on in the Peoria area for Memorial Day to honor fallen American soldiers.

Saturday, May 28, 2016:

10:30 The American Mausoleum in Peoria is hosting a service.

11:00 East Peoria’s observance is at the Fondulac Cemetery off of  Washington Road.

Sunday, May 29th, 2016:

The American Legion Post 2 Color Guard and Rifle Squad, chaplin and bugler conduct memorial observations at four Peoria locations:  

10:30am at St. Mary’s Cemetery

11:15am at Parkview Cemetery

12:00pm at Veterans Park

2:00pm at Springdale  

Monday, May 30th, 2016

The American Legion in Morton hosts a Memorial Day Breakfast and Ceremony from 8:00am to 11:00am. The breakfast is free for veterans and $6 for non-veterans. A service will be held after breakfast at the corner of Adams and First Street.

The City of Peoria honors veterans with a Memorial Day remembrance service at 10:30am at the Gateway Building on Monday, May 30th.

Peoria County hosts a Memorial Day Ceremony at the World Wars I & II Veterans Memorial in the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Sen. Dave Koehler will give the invocation and Lt. Col. Christopher L. Penningroth of the 182nd Airlift Wing will be guest speaker
