Glen Oak locked down during standoff in neighborhood

Tanya Koonce

The Peoria Police Department negotiated a stand off today that involved a man with a gun near Glen Oak School at Wisconsin and Republic.

Shawn Brown was arrested about 12:30 at 703 East Republic. He entered the house after running from police.

Peoria Police Spokeswoman Amy Dotson says it’s a busy intersection and police handled the matter accordingly:

“Everyone took precautions here to keep everyone as safe as they could. The children in the school, the citizens in the area and the officers and the suspect too.”

Dotson says the entire incident was resolved with Brown receiving a minor hand injury. But that was not at the hands of police.

Glen Oak School was on soft lockdown for about 40 minutes. Brown is the suspect in the armed robbery at the Wisconsin Avenue Family Dollar Store.
