Film Screening in Peoria Explores Oregon's Right-to-Die Law

Wikimedia Commons

Supporters of right to die legislation are hosting a public event in Peoria this weekend.

The group Final Option Illinois advocates for laws that allow citizens to die end their life, under a physician’s care. So far, five states and Washington, DC have enacted so-called aid-in-dying laws.

Final Option Illinois is screening the documentary “How to Die in Oregon,” which follows several terminally-ill Oregon residents who decide to take advantage of that state’s aid-in-dying law.

The organization is advocating for similar laws to be passed in Illinois, so patients nearing death have the legal authority to choose whether or not to continue palliative care.

The free film screening is Sunday at 1pm at the Peoria Public Library North branch. A Q and A session will follow.
