Downtown Peoria Hotel Gets New Life

wikimapia.com

Downtown Peoria is poised to get an additional 320 hotel rooms with the revitalization of The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports the hotel has been closed for nearly two years.

The Peoria City Council unanimously approved a redevelopment agreement with Hawkeye Hotels during it regular meeting. The agreement is based upon a partial property tax rebate, available due to the hotel’s location in a Tax Increment Finance District.

At-Large Peoria City Councilman Ryan Spain says it’s a strong agreement for the city. “We greatly look forward to having this hotel back up and running and what it can do for the downtown convention and tourism business.”

The $10-million renovation of the Four Points by Sheraton means 50 to 100 construction related jobs. The hotel is expected to re-opened for business in early next year, providing 50 full-time jobs.

Addition Peoria City Council News:

Peoria is getting its fourth residential police officer who will reside in the Center Bluff Neighborhood. The Peoria City Council unanimously approved the purchase of 220 W. Republic Street.

The house is costing the city $58,000 plus closing costs and effectively expands the nearly three-year-old program. The Center Bluff location was selected based on crime data charted on a hotspot map.

Advanced Medical Transport contributed $50,000 to the project.

Cyclists in the City of Peoria can also take note. A new Bicycle Master Plan was also unanimously approved by the Peoria City Council. The plan was designed through multiple public input efforts last year. It aims to include the city’s complete streets program when reworking and building roads.
