BU’s Convergence center sees major donation

Retired Caterpillar CEO Glen Barton and his wife Polly are making an undisclosed seven figure gift to Bradley University for the school’s proposed Business and Engineering Convergence Center.

B.U. Spokeswoman Renee Charles says the Bartons’ gift will also fund what’s called a Maker’s Lab. The idea is to create a space specifically dedicated to ensuring school children and people from the community have a place to develop and prototype ideas for engineering or business ventures.

The Barton’s gift will also be used to develop a partnership with Quest Charter Academy, allowing students to access the facility on Bradley’s campus.

Charles says the seven figure donation is foundational in the university’s fundraising effort for the Convergence Center.
