A ceremony kicked off the opening of the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit in East Peoria today. The exhibit, from the Tunnel to Tower Foundation, is traveling to Boyd Gaming establishments, and is currently set up at the Par-a-dice in East Peoria.

Retired New York Fire Department Capt. Vinny Doherty participated in the opening ceremony. He arrived at the twin towers after the first one fell on 9/11 and worked for two weeks straight at ground zero.

Referencing the line of East Peoria Firefighters, police and EMS workers, Doherty says they’ll go the distance to help others:

“We need to support them, along with our vets. And that’s the mission that we are here today to bring awareness to and education to.”

The Memorial is open to the public through August 29th. The Tunnel to Tower Foundation also accepts donations.
